These Items Are A Stealby Tim Manni
For 10 years now PropertyRoom.com has been selling stolen items. Allow us to explain. The website was created in 1999 by a former police detective to help sell the thousands of items that are confiscated from criminals. These items, which usually end up at local police auctions, are now available online.
Just as you bid on items for sale on ebay.com, PropertyRoom allows users to bid on items — everything from cars, jewelry, clothes, musical instruments, to plastic flamingos. The website’s founder says the 1,600 police departments around the country deliver goods daily to the website’s warehouse where the merchandise is inventoried, sorted then sold.
The website urges consumers to keep careful documentation of the serial numbers on their precious belongings. Law enforcement officials search for stolen items based on their unique serial number. If your stuff ends up on the website, rest assured you can get it back.
Consumers be warned: While many have found some great deals and discounts, PropertyRoom takes little to no responsibility for the quality or condition of the items — they are “sell as is”.
