“www.Tagged.com” Settles With NY & Texasby Tim Manni
Our readers are still commenting on our original post about www.Tagged.com, even though the story was written some five months ago. The email phishing scam involving Tagged.com quickly caught the attention of N.Y. Attorney General Andrew Cuomo who claimed that the website was responsible for “deceptive email marketing practices and invasion of privacy.”
While Cuomo announced his intentions to sue the third-ranked social networking site, no lawsuits were ever filed, according to the New York Times. Despite no official lawsuits being filed, Tagged.com did in fact end up settling disputes with both New York and Texas:
I’m pleased to say that this week we settled our disagreement with the Texas and New York Attorneys General. Both settlements incorporate many of the modifications we proposed in July. Consumer safety and privacy has been a priority since we first built Tagged. And the agreement we recently reached sets higher standards on both fronts.
We are thrilled to put the dispute behind us and focus 100% of our attention on the mission of Tagged: to help people discover new people and create connections online. We’re certain the recent upgrades we’ve made, coupled with the passion our community members display every day on the website, will help Tagged continue the incredible growth we’ve experienced since we launched the company five years ago.
Will Tagged.com ever be able to recover from the damage they sustained during this ordeal?
